Each year The Drinks Report publishes the World Whiskies Awards, highlighting the finest spirits in the world.. They don’t often get it wrong, either—if ever.

This year—2020—featured some repeat winners and some new, novel flavors and they came from all over. Japan, Australia, the United States were all well-represented across the 16 winners in the “Taste” category (there’s a category for design, too, but let’s be real, the taste is where the rubber meets the road).

Among the “Taste” winners are frequent flyers like the winner in the “World’s Best Single Barrel” category, Rebel Yell Single Barrel 10 Years Old, and the “World’s Best Pot Still,” Redbreast 21 Years Old out of Ireland.

We’ve highlighted the five most interesting winners, from the “Best Blended Malt” to “Best Non-Kentucky Bourbon”—a category that Kentucky natives might say shouldn’t even exist.
