A Closer Look at the Martine Rose x Nike Shox MR4 “Black”

Martine Rose is not the type of designer to take a silhouette, change the colors and materials, and call it a day. When the British-Jamaican designer strengthened the tooling of the already-bulky Monarch IV back in 2019, she demonstrated her talent for reimagining silhouettes with her distinctive language.

Given the positive feedback from that partnership, Nike called the London-based designer back for a second project, which now involves the Nike Shox MR4 — a shoe that first debuted in 2000.

The “Black” version of the two colorways that were seen walking down the runway of her SS23 show in Vauxhall, London, has now been unveiled. With this model, Rose makes a strong statement and completely changes the model’s build.

To create a sleeker, more tapered appearance, the toe box has been redesigned with a square-toe shape, and the side walls have been compressed. In terms of branding, her name has been branded into the insert of the right shoe as well as the tongue badges. For added flair, reflective accents can be seen on the laces and toe boxes, and the Shox pistons at the back have a striking red color.
