Eritrean-Swedish designer Selam Fessahaye was a standout among the emerging talent in the fashion industry, being named as a finalist for Zalando‘s sustainability awards. The collection was a feast for the eyes, with billowing constructions and vivid illustrations playing a prominent role. From illustrative coats covered in shimmering sequins to puffed blazers transformed into elegant dresses, every garment was crafted with the utmost care and attention to detail.

Incorporating themes of the natural world, Fessahaye explored the beauty of the animal kingdom through her designs. Deconstructed shirting was adorned with semi-translucent prints of hippopotamuses, while formalwear was brought to life with herds of zebras and unfinished ensembles featuring radiant hummingbirds.

Fessahaye’s imagination also took her to inhospitable wastelands, where adventure-ready uniforms were reimagined as slouchy suits with ruffled trimmings, metallic camel pins, and matching headscarves. The collection was rounded out by evening attire, with exaggerated shoulders, ultra-baggy variations, and dated map prints that gave the impression of discovering the world anew.

With her unique vision and imaginative designs, Selam Fessahaye is a name to watch in the fashion industry.
