Bungie’s 30th Anniversary DLC For Destiny 2 Will Give Players What They Want: Exotic Buffs

Bungie highlighted a host of changes coming to Destiny 2 on Dec. 7

Bungie‘s 30th Anniversary celebration for Destiny 2 is less than a month away, and Bungie is providing patch note details. In addition to the new dungeon, activities, weaponry, Gjallarhorn, and whatever else Bungie has in store for gamers, certain fan-favorite Exotics will undergo significant changes.

Bungie has worn some fans out with a slew of nerfs over the years, but Bungie’s most recent blog post is mostly buffs. The most noticeable alterations are to popular Exotics such as Whisper of the Worm and Sleeper Simulant. Sleeper receives the smaller of the two buffs, with a 6% damage increase (combined with a 10% Linear Fusion Rifle damage increase) and an extra shot in the magazine.

Whisper of the Worm, which was formerly the go-to damage weapon in almost all encounters, is getting a major overhaul. In addition to a 10% damage boost, the Whispered Breathing damage boost provided by the weapon’s Catalyst now triggers 0.9 seconds faster – a much bigger deal than it appears. Hitting three consecutive headshots in a row will also replenish the magazine by only utilizing two shots from reserves, resulting in one free bullet for accuracy.

The blog also highlights a host of other great Exotic improvements:

  • Leviathan’s Breath Catalyst will also give the Archer’s Tempo perk
  • Malfeasance’s explosions will do 50% more damage
  • DARCI will do 20% more damage and the Personal Assistant perk will be more reliable
  • Cryosthesia 77K will get a complete rework and no longer drain players’ magazines
  • Suros Regime’s Dual Mode Receiver version gets increased range and zoom
  • Arbalest will intrinsically have anti-barrier
  • Fighting Lion will reload much faster on a successful hit
  • Dead Man’s Tale will see some recoil adjustments for controller users

While this is all fantastic news for Destiny players, Bungie will also implement a few minor changes. Vex Mythoclast’s PvP wings are being cut a touch, mainly around its aim assist. Catalyst from Heir Apparent is getting a bug fix, which should limit its defensive powers. Lorentz Driver will no longer grant additional ability energy, and Traveler’s Chosen will provide reduced ability energy regeneration in PvP – Bungie community manager dmg04 clarified on Twitter that this is in anticipation of a later ability regen adjustment.

Bungie is also making big adjustments to weapon archetypes. Slug shotguns will lose 10% of their damage in PvE, whereas pellet shotguns will gain 10%. Caster swords now use less ammo for a big hit, while bows inflict 10% more damage to weak foes. Fusion Rifles and Sidearms will also receive a minor bug fix, allowing them to hitcan more reliably. In addition, like with Sleeper Simulant, all Linear Fusion Rifles will deliver 10% more damage. There will also be some perk and mod changes.

Finally, the studio highlighted a few new features that will be included in the Witch Queen expansion. Bungie is working to transition Catalysts away from pure Orb or Power generation, and hopes to have a solution in place by February 2022. In Witch Queen, there will also be a purpose to employ two weapons of the same element and stat type, though Bungie hasn’t revealed why. All primary weapon Exotics will also receive a tuning run to improve their utility.

All of these modifications, with the exception of those specifically teased for the next expansion, will go live on December 7th, in conjunction with the Bungie 30th Anniversary event.
