Casablanca Unveils Automotive-Inspired New Balance XC-72 Collaboration

The collaboration between Casablanca and New Balance continues, with the Parisian brand now adopting the XC-72 style. The two new colorways are referred to as “sports cars for your feet” in both instances, referencing the “Grand Prix” motif that also pervaded the brand’s Fall/Winter 2021 collection.

The two color schemes were influenced by high-end automobiles, particularly the striking models that are frequently spotted on the streets of Monaco.

In the first version, the sneaker comes in an orange-green color scheme with tonal gray and white accents, paying homage to earlier Casablanca x New Balance releases. The second shoe’s red and yellow upper and a black outsole unit that was modeled after racing tires allude to its automotive inspiration.

Launching the collection, Casablanca Creative Director Charaf Tajer and Art Director Stevie Grimes said, “From when we first started working on the collaboration, we dubbed it the “sports car for your feet” as it evokes that feeling of when you first saw a luxury car as a child, you knew it was a car.. but it was different to any car you’d seen before, it’s a feeling, a sense of wonder, designed to perform, designed to be special.”
