Damien Hirst Turns Drake’s ‘Certified Lover Boy’ Cover Art Into NFTs

Turning the cover into a series of 10,000 Ethereum NFTs.

Damien Hirst, the British artist who recently designed the album cover art for Drake‘s chart-topping Certified Lover Boy, has revealed that he is converting it into 10,000 Ethereum NFTs.

According to Decrypt, individuals who own Hirst’s The Currency collection, which debuted earlier this summer in July, got “airdropped” these additional NFTs for free. These NFT collectibles, titled Great Expectations, were not available for public purchase. Hirst explained his decision in a series of ten Tweets, stating, “Everything done well is art. With Drake’s support and blessing, I’ve created this free Thanksgiving gift for all Currency NFT holders; it’s loosely based on the album cover I made for Drake.”

Each of the 10,000 NFT pieces follows the same grid that depicted the original 12 Emoji-like pregnant women. In Hirst’s NFT collection, the artist has added a new twist, changing the style of the women, varying in color palettes, backgrounds, hair types and adding accessories like handbags and party hats. Some might even find a skull or a flame replacing the face of the women. In a series of tweets Hirst details Great Expectations stating, “Like all great art, it looks easy. [He] wanted it to be pop, high, and low art…be ironic while remaining iconic.”

It’s no wonder that many Great Expectations holders are anxious to trade their free NFTs on OpenSea. The cheapest NFT in the series is now priced at 1.1 ETH, which roughly converts to $4,500 USD. Heni NFT has the whole collection of Damien Hirst’s Great Expectations NFTs.
