Dior Fall 2023: a Mystical Future Set Against the Giza Pyramids

For this Fall collection Dior‘s Kim Jones heads to Egypt’s Giza Pyramids in Cairo.

Jones’ love of travel is reflected in the collection, as she spent her childhood in Botswana, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Ghana. Using the Great Pyramids as a mystical backdrop, the designer propels the ancient structures into the future with a contemporary collection that transformed models into desert warriors.

Models were guided through sandy walkways adorned with lightweight fabrics that shielded them from the powdery breeze that crept into the sky by illuminated corridors.

Two-piece sets in neutral tones were accompanied by delicate blazers, floor-length shawls, and strands of tulle with a celestial essence that drifted in the air. These swung back and forth, clinging to slouchy trousers, rhinestone-encrusted tops, and sheer organza anoraks, blending into protective face shields worn overhead.

Following that were refined suiting, draped knitwear, and billowing bomber jackets, all accessorized with double-layered buckle belts, kangaroo-style hand warmers, and clear helmets for added security against the desert winds. Dashes of yellow and orange jump from one look to the next, illuminating the otherwise subdued offering from another planet.

Geometric combat chest guards walked alongside zippered trench coats, graphic knit tees, and snakeskin outerwear, while wicker baskets were transformed into backpacks and adventure-ready footwear was strapped tight for the uncertain journey ahead.
