The Fendi x Versace collaboration is a reality, after months of conjecture and a cryptic gold-and-white letter given to fashion insiders.

“It’s a first in the history of fashion,” said Donatella Versace, where two major fashion designers had a “true creative dialogue that stems from respect and friendship.” The event took place today at Versace’s headquarters located at Via Gesù in Milan, Italy.

Donatella and Silvia Venturini Fendi swapped positions to be inspired by the other’s vision in the exhibition “VERSACE BY FENDI — FENDI BY VERSACE.” Kim Jones, who has now become a famous designer in his own right, collaborated with Venturini Fendi to design Versace’s women’s and menswear lines. While Versace used her inimitable vision to reimagine Fendi, she drew inspiration from the luxury fashion house’s enormous archives. “Fendace is about the need for sincerity in fashion today rather than strategy,” Versace said in a statement.

VERSACE BY FENDI was inspired by the mid-to-late 1990s and explores the concept of duality through a series of basic items that combine the Fendi monogram with Versace’s iconic Greek key design. Donatella chose a more punk rock approach, introducing rebellious overtones into FENDI’s already youthful universe, such as mixing chain mail with lace and crystal-encrusted F’s to rework the company monogram.

There were a lot of notable celebrities and models in attendance, including Dua Lipa, Evan Mock, and Winnie Harlow, as well as Gigi Hadid, Kate Moss, and Emily Ratajkowski.
