Is Ex-Givenchy Head Clare Waight Keller Headed to UNIQLO?

While Clare Waight Keller may have stepped away from the spotlight, her creative prowess continues to thrive. The former creative director of Givenchy, who bid farewell to the brand in 2020, is reportedly embarking on a new venture—a collection for none other than UNIQLO.

Fast Retailing Co., the parent company of UNIQLO, remains tight-lipped, stating they “cannot confirm any new projects or collections at this time.” However, insiders reveal that the highly anticipated collaboration is set to debut this fall.

Having assumed the creative helm of Givenchy in 2017, Waight Keller made history as the first woman to lead the iconic house since its inception in 1952. Taking over from Riccardo Tisci, she ushered in a fresh aesthetic that diverged from Tisci’s trademark dark and alluring style.

During her tenure, Waight Keller crafted a defining moment by designing Meghan Markle’s unforgettable wedding dress—a gown that mesmerized audiences and captured the world’s attention. Her time at Givenchy was further punctuated by a series of notable achievements, including the revival of Givenchy Couture on the runway, enlisting Ariana Grande as the face of the brand in 2019, and dressing a host of A-list celebrities (Zendaya, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and more) for red carpet extravaganzas.

Since parting ways with Givenchy, Waight Keller has maintained a low profile. News of her potential collaboration with UNIQLO follows the retailer’s recent successful partnerships with JW Anderson and a vibrant collection in collaboration with Marni. In addition, UNIQLO’s viral sensation, the $20 Round Mini Shoulder Bag, became the fashion world’s favorite TikTok darling and topped LYST’s quarterly ranking of popular fashion items.
