Isabel Marant’s SS23 Runway Show Was a Nod to Her ’90s Debut

Isabel Marant has been on a journey to build her ideal Marant identity since launching her eponymous line in 1994 – bold yet summoned by traces of grunge and bohemian elegance.

The designer’s relaxed approach is always on display, and season after season, Marant ensures that effortlessly cool style is here to stay.

Isabel Marant’s fall 2022 collection was immersed in metropolitan rock n’ roll. City girls were dressed in sparkling sequin coats and leather trousers that spoke to the freeing post-pandemic era, while mega-oversized nylon bombers were coupled with matching bottoms in red hues.

Marant chose to revisit her ’90s debut for Spring/Summer 2023, examining her humble beginnings alongside references from late photographer Corinne Day (a Kate Moss OG). The co-ed collection included men and women dressed like city warriors, with the recognized design language that has propelled Marant to the top of the fashion world.

Vintage inspirations kept their own in the womenswear area, with low-waisted leather skirts, beautifully embroidered dresses, and haltered flowing ensembles oozing with Y2K flare. The Hadid sisters also walked the runway, with Gigi wearing a washed camouflage jacket and Bella coming in third in an innocent black dress with geometrical embroidery at the chest.

Menswear remained sleek and uncomplicated, making it ideal for coastal beach days or summer nights. Slouchy cargo pants and supple leather capris were paired with sandy crochet tops.

Long-sleeve tops with fringed edges and deep V-necks, as well as unfolded button-downs and practical boiler suits, exuded midsummer elegance. Isabel Marant SS23 was a showcase of everything that has helped the company become what it is today.
