Joan Jonas and Woolmark Unite to Create a Spectacular Showcase of Art and Fashion

This year’s International Woolmark Prize has culminated in the selection of eight finalists, including Irish designer Robyn Lynch and Anthony Alvarez‘s French menswear brand, Bluemarble.

Tasked with crafting a six-piece collection that conveys the beauty and adaptability of Merino wool in the context of a “Dialogue” theme, the competition has extended its reach by collaborating with legendary artist Joan Jonas. The intersection of performance art and fashion design comes alive through Jonas’ participation in a visual project and accompanying film.

A contemporary restaging of Jonas’ Delay Delay, the project seeks to stimulate an intergenerational conversation. Shot against the rugged coastline of Marseille in France and directed by Zak Kyes, the film features Woolmark’s collections on actor Taylour Paige and musician Loyle Carner.

Robyn Lynch, the UK finalist, uses her collection to showcase the technical intricacies of wool with a focus on bold colors. The designer’s Irish heritage comes to life in chunky cable-knit patterns and graphic sheep motifs, complemented by fuzzy hoodies and structured bomber jackets. The versatility of wool is on full display with finely-knit lime-green trousers and layered looks.

Speaking on the collaboration, Jonas emphasized her curiosity in how people interpret her work and how it may inspire changes in their artistic practices. The final event of the International Woolmark Prize will take place in Paris on May 15th.
