Margielyn Didal, a Filipino Olympian skater, has teamed up with New Balance Numeric to redesign one of the brand’s skate shoes. The 272, a traditional New Balance model, has been given a cultural makeover in honor of Didal’s Cebuano ancestry.
The silhouette is based on a traditional Filipino snack known as “puso,” which is a woven pouch filled with rice made from coconut leaves.
The upper is made of black suede and mesh, which gives it a sleek appearance while still providing a comfortable fit. After weaving, the lateral has a gray checkered pattern that resembles the snack’s exterior. The insoles, which are emblazoned with “puso” and co-branding, complete the footwear style.
