mastermind JAPAN Taps Carhartt WIP for Their Latest Collaboration

mastermind JAPAN and Carhartt have been working together for over a decade, both on the mainline and through Carhartt WIP. The two focus on mastermind JAPAN’s cult following that is obsessed with the label’s skull motif under Masaaki Homma‘s seminal Japanese imprint and the Carhartt WIP division.

It’s all over the place here, including a zip-up anorak jacket, a Chore jacket, T-shirts in both long and short sleeves, a hoodie, a fleecy pouch, and the standout pair of overalls.

The next piece perfectly combines Carhartt WIP’s utilitarian, streetwear-tinged functionality with mastermind JAPAN’s sensibilities, which are limited to a black and silver embroidered branding palette. The skull is embroidered on the back of the garment, and the pockets are adorned with dual silver embroidery.

Similarly, the same motif appears on different pieces — large-scale skeletons adorn the backs of hoodies, while tees get a custom piece of branding that combines mastermind JAPAN’s moniker with Carhartt WIP’s signature emblem. To stay on theme, buttons are available in silver or black, and neck tag branding indicating the collaborative effort is prominent.

The collaboration will be available at select Carhartt WIP stores in Asia and the United States on November 12, and in Europe on November 19.
