Panerai invites the watch industry to support the access and distribution of clean-sourced, premium materials used in luxury watchmaking by introducing its Submersible QuarantaQuattro eSteel™ range. The Verde Smeraldo (sage green), Grigio Roccia (grey), and Blu Profondo (navy blue) models are part of the series, which uses 72g of recycled steel as its basic material.
Panerai’s exclusive eSteel™ material is composed of 95% recycled steel and 5% pure components. eSteel™, which accounts for 52% of the total weight of each timepiece (about 137g), has chemical properties that are indistinguishable from traditional steel used in cutting-edge dive watches. The existence of eSteel™ is indicated by engraving on the lever and an inscription on the dial, yet the watchmaker’s technical competence and established design codes are preserved.
eSteel™ is a robust, noncorrosive component with brushed striations that can withstand the immense blue of the ocean. The unidirectional bezel’s radiant, glossy ceramic marks a new manufacturing milestone for the Maison and adds a touch of refined elegance to the range’s color stories and recycled PET fabric bands in green, grey, and navy blue.
Tonal components at the bezel and dial continue the color story; the polished dial displays the color gradient, which intensifies from top to bottom, giving its face an unexpected feeling of dimension. A wrench and screwdriver are included with each watch and may be used to replace the fabric strap with the interchangeable recycled rubber band.
The 44mm Submersible QuarantaQuattro eSteel™ timepieces have a 4.2mm thick self-winding automatic P.900 caliber. Each piece features a three-day power reserve and the watchmaker’s proprietary Incabloc™ anti-shock technology, which actively works to reduce internal vibration and friction.
In each colorway, the hour markers and dial dots have stunning brightness. Each model is completed by a screw-back casing in textured eSteel™ and a safety lock at the lever. The Submersible line includes pieces with 300-meter (30 bar) water resistance for improved underwater usefulness and wearability.
