Polo Ralph Lauren is bringing back its skating era, and it’s not just a one-time thing. After the 2018 collaboration with Palace, the iconic fashion house has teamed up with another skate label for a ready-to-wear capsule that’s steeped in earthy tones and outdoor vibes. Element and Polo have combed through their archives to serve up a fresh and timeless homage to the great outdoors.
This capsule collection draws inspiration from Ralph Lauren’s iconic Fall 1982 womenswear collection. Specifically, it channels the collection’s timeless yet nostalgic hand-knit sweaters and its fusion of folk art and vintage influences. The Polo x Element collaboration spans a wide spectrum of functional apparel, marrying the ethos and branding of both players.
From chino pants and distinguished polo shirts to patterned printed tees, a denim jacket, a plaid shirt, and fleece sweatshirts and pants, there’s a diverse array to choose from. But it’s the reworked Polo sample sweater that truly steals the show. With intricate embroidery and slightly more vibrant colors, this sweater features a schoolhouse backdrop with a halfpipe next door and a skater navigating the path in the foreground.
The collection also boasts five different skate decks, one of which draws from Element’s iconic Section board graphic from the 1990s. Crafted entirely from 100% North American maple hardwood and built using Element’s seven-ply construction, these decks’ designs align with the folk art influences seen throughout the capsule’s apparel.
But this collaboration goes beyond clothing and skate decks; it’s about inspiring the next generation to get outside and skate. Polo and Element took the collab to an experiential level by hosting a skate camp in Mt. Hood, Oregon, in June. They enlisted global local skate shops to recommend 13 young skaters from around the world to attend the camp alongside a team of Element pro-skaters. The camp was five days of hiking and skating, all captured in a documentary to be released alongside the collection.
Get ready to shop the Polo x Element collection on October 5. It’ll be available online, at Ralph Lauren flagship stores, select Element retail locations, and a curated selection of skate shops.
