RM Sotheby’s Auctions 1990 Mercedes-Benz 190E Evolution II

Following all of the attention surrounding A$AP Rocky‘s real-life Mercedes-Benz 190E replicating the Need for Speed Unbound hero car, a new listing from RM Sotheby’s has now appeared offering up a pristine 1990 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II.

While the BMW M3 is widely regarded as the most iconic car to emerge from the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) in the late 1980s, the Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.3-16, developed in collaboration with engineering firm Cosworth for the Group B category, was one of its fiercest competitors on the track.

Fast forward to 1992, when the Mercedes’ W201 chassis achieved its pinnacle of success with the Evo II winning the DTM championship overall. One of 502 Evolution II vehicles, number 229, is shown above.

“Both its success on the racetrack and limited production makes it highly sought-after by marque aficionados. Furthermore, none of the 502 Evolution IIs produced were ever officially imported to the United States, which only heightens its exclusivity stateside,” writes RM Sotheby’s.

The exterior is finished in Blauschwarz Metallic paint over black leather, and the interior includes a sunroof, heated seats, a Technics stereo CD player, and new Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires.

Inside is a Cosworth 2.5-liter 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine with 238 horsepower and a five-speed Getrag manual transmission. More details can be found here.
