Shaina McCoy Is Releasing Her ‘Hoops’ Print With Avant Arte

Shaina McCoy, a Minneapolis-based artist, uses dense brushstrokes to conjure up personal memories of her family.

McCoy’s subjects are always presented without facial features, giving them a universality that allows each viewer to connect their own thoughts and experiences to the thick layers of paint.

McCoy will release a limited-edition print titled Hoops in collaboration with Avant Arte. The artwork depicts a young girl wearing a top with the Los Angeles Lakers logo on it.

“There are things I would like to say so I use portraiture to guide those thoughts and to tell the stories of my family.”

To say McCoy paints her canvases with a lot of paint would be an understatement. Avant Arte has faithfully reproduced the artist’s vision through an 18 layer textured UV pigment print with spot varnish on 640gsm lana hot press paper, where this process is generally lost in printmaking.

Hoops is an edition of 25 and will be available to purchase for $2,324 USD on June 9 at 9am ET.
