Studio Symbiosis Tackles Air Pollution in India With Proposed ‘Aũra’ Cleaning System

In a bid to clean up the air in Delhi, India. Studio Symbiosis has come up with a series of solutions under the name ‘Aũra’. Encompassing four different elements, the project aims to tackle and rectify the threat of pollution taking over Delhi’s national capital region (NCR).

According to WHO (World Health Organization) guidelines, as of November 2019, the residents of Delhi are breathing about 25 times more toxic air than the permissible limit. The national capital is covered by a thick smog and its neighbor areas are filled with high levels of PM 2.5 (a micropollutant that enters the bloodstream and causes clots, blocking the blood flow, leading to heart attacks and other diseases). the AQI level has reached 1350 and the PM 2.5 level has reached 999. in short, air pollution in the Indian capital is at dangerous levels.

Aũra Tower.

The first element of the project is the ‘Aũra Cleaning Tower’. Developed under principles of aerodynamics, the twisting towers are designed as 60m and 18m high respectively. The elliptical towers are able to intake polluted air from 360 degrees and are designed with two main chambers. One to increase the relative velocity of the air and the other to clean the massive intake of air before expelling it. The architects estimate that an 18-meter-tall Aũra tower could clean 32 million cubic meters of air every day and have the capacity to clean 1.3 million cubic meters of air per hour.

Aũra Hotspot and Aura Falcons.

The secondary element in the system is the ‘Aũra Hotspot’, a smaller version designed to be grafted within the city. These towers designed as 18 meters high with a range of 1 square kilometer and will create a grid to ensure clean air in the city. These hotspots are highly effective, even when wind speeds drop and the pollution level increase, and are proposed for each neighborhood.

Aũra Velocity.

The third element is focused at objects in motion, moving through the city. The ‘Aũra Velocity’ is a simple gadget on top of cars, to help generate artificial wind, by using the same principles of aerodynamics. Making cars act as a hive of micro air purifiers, the more cars moving in the city, the clearer the environment.

Aũra Tower with Aũra Falcons.

The last element in the ‘Aũra Hive’ system is a network of drones, designed to monitor and transfer live updates of the pollution levels. These ‘Aũra Falcon’ drones are nestes within the cleaning towers, and can detach and fly through the city. They double up as CCTV cameras with an added feature of security.

The ‘Aũra Hive’ system aims for a clean future for Delhi, and other cities around the globe, making clean air accessible to everyone, not just the people who can afford it.
