Vivienne Westwood has announced the introduction of its latest collection, Sun, under the Creative Direction of Andreas Kronthaler.
Westwood’s signature themes and influences can be found throughout the collection, but everything has been reimagined for today’s fashion climate, presenting a selection of sunglasses that may be from the past, present, or future. Experimenting pairs, for example, exist in the same collection as one influenced by 1960s Italian splendour, while others are blown out of proportion and overdone in a modern way.
Speaking on the Sun 2022 collection, Kronthaler says, “sunglasses should be the embodiment of personal theatre. They can make any look — they are an extension of your style. Of course they have a purpose, but they should be fun, playful, joyous.”
Indeed, Vivienne Westwood’s latest collection is full of whimsy. There is something for everyone and all preferences in the three categories — “Vanguard;” androgynous and avant-garde, “Prêt-à-Porter;” nostalgic and inspired by icons, and “Essence;” classics with characteristic Westwood embellishments.
All of the items blend bio-based acetate with hardwearing metals, most notably on the aviator-style sunglasses with an ornate design on the arm. The cat-eye frameless pairs with Orb detailing on the lens, or possibly the thick black-framed offerings, are the standouts from the collection.
Each pair comes in a recycled by-product leather case with an organic cotton bag, recycled polyester fabric, and an FSC-certified recycled paper presentation box.
