Twitter Starts Experimenting With Shopping Features In Livestreams

Starting with a Walmart collaboration on November 28th

Twitter has begun testing a new live shopping experience, following its first substantial move into e-commerce this summer. The technology effectively allows users to watch a broadcast while also shopping.

The first live shopping stream will take place on November 28th at 7PM ET, when Walmart hosts a Cyber Week-themed livestream with Jason Derulo. The artist will chat about a variety of things, including electronics and home decor, for around 30 minutes.

“Livestreaming on Twitter enables businesses to engage with their most influential fans, and incorporating the ability to shop into this experience is a natural extension to attracting and engaging with receptive audiences,” Twitter said of the feature.

Twitter has also begun testing a “Shopping Manager,” which it claims would aid in merchant onboarding. In addition, the “Shop Module” is becoming more widely available. The technology, which was first introduced in July, allows companies and enterprises to add a carousel to their profile to display a range of items. The service will be made available to more businesses in the United States in the coming weeks, according to the company.

Twitter has been sluggish to embrace and integrate e-commerce services in comparison to other social networking networks. The fact that the corporation is now adding a slew of purchasing options indicates that it sees e-commerce as an important part of its future.
