Will Smartphones Be Obsolete in the Metaverse?

Apple debuted the iPhone 13 earlier this year, which sold 14 percent more than its predecessor, the iPhone 12.

The success of the new device may appear surprising, given the lack of excitement surrounding the new model when it was revealed. With the exception of a few additional color possibilities, the design was essentially identical to the previous phone, but the Apple effect appears to be showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

By continually modifying and upgrading its devices, whether it’s a telephone, AirPods, or MacBook computers, the technology behemoth has managed to establish a culture of FOMO. There is always something fresh with each new release, which is why millions of units sell quickly after they are released.

Apple is also planning to release a new device that might replace the iPhone in less than a decade.

The new device is augmented reality-based, comparable to Oculus and the Microsoft HoloLens. The device is supposed to be a pair of glasses that allow you to manipulate your surroundings.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, an industry insider, the device will render the iPhone obsolete in ten years. “If Apple’s goal is to replace the iPhone with augmented reality in ten years, that means Apple will sell at least one billion AR devices in ten years,” Kuo told the New York Post.

Mark Zuckerberg has previously stated that he sees augmented reality as the obvious successor to mobile, and with the Metaverse looming, Apple’s first goggles may be released as early as next year.
