Zenith Defy Extreme E Copper X Prix Showcases All-Electric Chilean Desert Rally

Zenith has designed a new special edition 1/100th second chronograph in preparation for the penultimate race on the Extreme E 2022 schedule.

The Defy Extreme E Copper X Prix chronograph is the third special edition chronograph designed for the all-electric rally championship, and it is named after this weekend’s Copper X Prix race in Chile’s Atacama Desert, one of the world’s most important copper mining locations.

The carbon fiber and sandblasted titanium watch also combines recycled and reused parts from the championship, while the multi-layered dial features tinted sapphire crystal panes, taking on “coppery-brown accents that evoke the dry, rocky terrain and copper mines of the Chilean desert.”

The high-beat chronograph has two independent escapements, one for timekeeping at 5Hz (36,000vph) and one for chronograph functioning at 50Hz (360,000vph).

The Defy Extreme E Copper X Prix is held together with a cordura-effect rubber strap constructed from upcycled Continental CrossContact tires from the first season, as well as additional black rubber and black Velcro straps.

The watch comes in a “sturdy waterproof and crushproof watch case” with upcycled components “from the sidelines of the first season’s races.”

The Defy Extreme E Copper X Prix is limited to 20 pieces and priced at $27,100 USD. It is only available at Zenith boutiques or online.
