For Spring/Summer 2023, Chanel prioritized elevated sportswear over sweatpants, which we have all grown accustomed to over the pandemic.
Silhouettes were more generous and less confining (as seen by the addition of new size ranges), and fabrications remained true to the house – tweeds, chiffon, and leather – while a new sweatshirt incorporating graphic black-and-white vintage photography was debuted on the runway.
Pantsuits with single and double-breasted jacket features, an all-white tracksuit-esque jacket and pant combination, safari-style tiny skirts, and cropped jackets reigned supreme. The collection also included ruffled-top day dresses and black-and-white polka dot sets.
Although it is clear that Virginie Viard‘s conception of the Chanel woman differs slightly from Karl Lagerfeld‘s, her creations are reminiscent of the sophisticated elegance and sporty ease that Coco Chanel originally established for the company.
