The film, which was first announced in 2018, is based on James’ 2009 Shooting Stars book, which follows LeBron James’ thrilling high school days with the Fab 5 as they overcome personal challenges on their way to a national championship title.

A number of Academy Award nominees, including Rachel Winter (Dallas Buyers Club) and Terence Winter (The Wolf of Wall Street), as well as SpringHill Company, are co-producing the film (Space Jam 2). With James’ help, Chris Robinson, the director of the Netflix original Beats, will direct the film.

The Shooting Stars biopic, unlike the infamous More Than a Game documentary, will be shot in Akron, Ohio, and acted out by actors. A casting call is currently taking place, and the identity of the actor who will play James in the upcoming film is still unknown.

While no exact release date has been announced, Shooting Stars is expected to debut in 2023. Stay tuned for more information.
