SZA’s Record-Breaking Reign on the Charts

2023 has been nothing short of spectacular for SZA. With the release of her highly-anticipated album, SOS, last year, she not only received critical acclaim but also enjoyed substantial commercial success. The album embarked on a remarkable 10-week journey at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 following its debut.

It continued its reign for an impressive 21 weeks on the combined Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. But perhaps the most astonishing feat of all happened on the Top R&B Albums chart, where SZA’s success has officially made history.

This week, the confirmation came in that SOS has secured its record-breaking 41st week at the number one position on the official Top R&B Albums chart. This achievement shattered the record for the longest consecutive run since the chart’s inception in 2013. The previous record holder, The Weeknd’s “After Hours,” reached its peak with 40 weeks at the top in 2021. In other chart news, albums like Doja Cat’s “Planet Her” and Bruno Mars’ “24k Magic” may have notched up more than 25 weeks at the summit, but SZA’s reign remains unmatched.

SZA’s triumphs extend to the Hot 100 as well. Her SOS single “Kill Bill” claimed the number one spot on the chart for a week in March. Upon the release of the new charts earlier this week, she found herself back on top once more. Her latest collaboration with Drake, “Slime You Out,” made its debut at the number one spot, solidifying her position as the only artist to score two number-one hits in 2023. Additionally, her single “Snooze” reached a new peak, claiming the #3 spot this week.

In the previous week, SZA joined forces with Jean Dawson to deliver a beautiful and multifaceted new single. The song has already amassed nearly two million streams on Spotify and shows promise of becoming one of Dawson’s biggest hits. With a deluxe version of SOS featuring new tracks slated for release later this year, SZA’s chart domination appears poised to continue indefinitely.
