Yohji Yamamoto’s Tattered Elegance Set a Halfway Mark for Paris’ SS23 Collections

Yohji Yamamoto has been pushing the boundaries of what ready-to-wear in both men’s and women’s clothes means for ages. To some, his designs are startling and puzzling, while to others they are decadent and understandable.

The renowned designer set the bar for Paris’ SS23 shows with a diverse array of all-black runway looks for Spring/Summer 2023. Each outfit was expertly pieced together with varied degrees of layering and sophistication.

Yamamoto’s womenswear presentation featured somber tones and fluttering materials in addition to the bold hues and modern design collections seen this week in Paris.

These pieces included corseted tops and skirts with short zip-front details, sheer cutaways, and lace underpinning. The collection featured loose silhouettes evoking a ’80s vibe, along with ripped leggings, asymmetrical details, exaggerated shoulders, and graphic leggings with an artistic influence.

In terms of accessories, wide-brimmed, round hats in black and white completed the jackets’ and dresses’ laser-sharp Ise-Katagami cloth cuts. Ballet-style flats, leather peep-toe boots, cut-out sandals, and white, black, and red thick-soled sneakers were among the selection of footwear.

In addition, Yamamoto recently unveiled his WILDSIDE conceptual clothing and accessory brand in addition to his Fall/Winter 2022 Supreme collaboration, letting customers and buyers know that he is not slowing down and that his inventiveness is as diverse as his collections.
