2023 BMW M2 Prioritizes High Performance & Control

With a 338kW/460 horsepower six-cylinder in-line engine, a six-speed manual transmission, and rear-wheel drive, the second-generation vehicle delivers hallmark M performance in a focused form. Notably, the premiere of the high-performance sports car represents another celebration milestone in BMW M GmbH’s 50th anniversary.

The engine under the hood of the M2 exceeds its predecessor by 66kW/90hp. The power source achieves peak torque of 550 Nm between 2,650 and 5,870 rpm and maximum output at 6,250 rpm when revved to a maximum of 7,200 rpm. The cooling and oil supply systems of the vehicle are designed to navigate dynamic longitudinal and lateral distances.

The new M2 boasts quick handling that stays controlled even as its driver pushes it to its limits, thanks to improved powertrain and chassis technologies inspired by the BMW M3 and M4. The outward architecture of the two-door variant also contributes to its simple handling, with athletic coupé proportions, a short wheelbase, and an almost evenly balanced 50:50 weight distribution.

The vehicle’s frameless kidney grille with horizontal bars recalls its M lineage in terms of appearance. Flared side skirts and thick wheel arches provide an eye-catching side view, while the back features vertical reflectors, two pairs of exhaust pipes, a spoiler lip on the boot lid, and an eye-catching diffuser insert.

The inside of the vehicle has a driver-oriented cockpit with the BMW Curved Display and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant for high-tech use. Shift lights and other driving-related information now appear on the 12.3-inch screen in a redesigned graph arrangement. There are also driver-oriented designs with M-specific readouts, controls, and setting choices.

The next BMW M2 will be available in April 2023. The initial price will be $62,200 USD, with a $995 USD destination charge.
