How many brands can claim to have influenced so many different aspects of fashion, from sports to music to pop culture? The list is short, with FILA at the top. This year marks the 110th anniversary of the legendary sport style brand, which means more than a century of making an indelible cultural stamp.
To mark the occasion, FILA released a series of collaborations that paid tribute to the brand’s Italian heritage. FILA created capsule collections in collaboration with MSGM and Acqua di Parma this year, as well as specifically designed on-court clothes for FILA-sponsored tennis players competing in the season’s last Grand Slam in New York.
The 110th Anniversary Collection, which commemorates the brand’s long legacy while also setting a standard for the future, will be released next. Katie Grand, a trailblazing fashionista, writer, and cultural curator, contributed her artistic vision to the memorial collection.
According to FILA, “Grand explored FILA’s rich history in sport and reinterpreted a series of archival styles. The pieces she selected have been reissued and redesigned with a contemporary update. Items reflect the innovative spirit of FILA, as they tell the story of the brand’s epic moments and the legendary individuals who transformed sports and fashion.”
A selection of garments inspired by the world of skiing, produced with Piacenza Cashmere and built in Biella, Italy, the brand’s birthplace, stand out. Re-editions of iconic sweaters, such as the Snow Time, Argyle, and White Rock designs, which rose to cult status in the late 1970s and early 1980s, are included.
Expect to see FILA’s classic ski jacket, an all-time 90s staple, make an appearance as well. All of the items feature FILA’s signature F-Box emblem, as well as an unique embroidered patch commemorating the brand’s anniversary. Only 500 of each item were produced, so die-hard fans should act quickly.
The FILA 110th Anniversary Collection will be available on FILA.com commencing October 26th, as well as at select multi-brand retailers throughout the world.
