NASA & Hideo Kojima Collaborate on a Ludens-Inspired Timepiece

NASA and Hideo Kojima have collaborated on a project, and it is not just the collaboration that is exceptional. After all, the mascot of Kojima Productions is a character named Ludens, who wears an extravehicular activity spacesuit and is meant to be an astronaut exploring digital space.

No, it is the fact that they worked together on a watch. It is not even a smartwatch; it is an actual timepiece dubbed Space Ludens, which is based on the mascot of the gaming developer.

Anicorn, a creative studio and watchmaker that has previously collaborated with NASA on various watches and apparel, designed and will sell the watch. It is modeled on the visual style of Ludens’ spacesuit, with gray/silver coloring and gold screws and embellishments, as IGN points out. The NASA insignia, as well as the phrases “Extra-Vehicular Creative Activity Suit.” are emblazoned on the watchface. The Kojima Productions emblem is stamped on the glass case beneath, which shows the watch’s gears.

While a watch is probably not the first thing that comes to mind when you hear Kojima collaborated with NASA, it does seem fairly cool and might appeal to fans of either party. On September 27th, a limited number of Space Ludens watches will be made available.

Only 600 pieces will be available for purchase, with 100 of them including a skull mask based on the one displayed prominently in the Kojima Productions logo.

The Space Ludens collection is rounded off with a Ludens Sacoche, $125 USD, created by outdoor gear company, Syzygy, and inspired by the Ludens carrier and a Space Ludens NASA Tee, priced $68 USD.

The Kojima Productions x NASA x Anicorn Watches Space Ludens collection will be available on Anicorn Watches on September 27th at 8AM.
