Given that the 550 continues to excite the sneaker community, whether through collaborations or GRs, New Balance has responded by essentially tripling its output in 2022.
It’s no secret that this silhouette has a stranglehold on both old and new sneakerheads, and this season it’s preparing a pair of new colorways inspired by the Los Angeles Lakers.
Despite the fact that these pairs have no affiliation with the professional NBA team, their presentations clearly incorporate their colors. Both styles feature perforated textures along the lower mid-foot region and are made of traditional white leather uppers.
Yellow and gold accents guide the first pair, which can be seen on the N logos, basketballs on the tongues, tongue trimming, and treading, while purple is used to touch up the “550” hits and piping. By draping purple over the heightened parts of the heel, N insignias, tongue graphics, and the front and back ends of the soles.
The second pair allows purple to do most of the heavy lifting. The N logo outlines, “550” embellishments, and tongue lettering all have a splash of Lakers yellow. Although no release date has been set, New Balance is expected to release these soon.
