As March approaches, so does the annual celebration of Air Max Day by Nike. Marked on the original release date of the Air Max 1 in 1987, this holiday has become known for special releases and new silhouette launches. For 2023, fans can look forward to the launch of the Air Max 1 “Design by Japan”.
This unique colorway was created as a collaboration between Nike and the SNKRS Japan community. The design features retro details such as throwback branding on the tongue and heel and a dark yellow midsole reminiscent of vintage Nike soles.
The sneaker is composed of an olive green leather mudguard and midfoot panel, with white mesh underlays and leather Swooshes for contrast. A tangerine hue accents the heel, and additional aged detailing can be found on the tongue and laces, which are finished in a dark off-white shade.
Details about the release of the Nike Air Max 1 “Design by Japan” have yet to be announced by the brand, but it is likely to be available during March’s Air Max Day celebrations, and potentially as a release exclusive to Japan.
