Sotheby’s Announces Retrospective Auction “Nike SB | 20 Years”

Sotheby’s is best known for auctioning rare pieces of art, but it recognizes that the world is changing and that items like sneakers, NFTs, sports memorabilia, and watches are becoming just as collectible, if not more so, than they were previously.

Sotheby’s has announced its first Nike Skateboarding-focused auction, “Nike SB | 20 Years,” following its exclusive sale of the Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1 collection designed by Virgil Abloh, as well as its “Modern Collectibles” auction and the listing of Diego Maradona’s “Hand of God” jersey.

Sotheby’s brings together a sneakerhead’s paradise that includes some of the most sought-after and industry-defining sneakers ever made to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Nike SB sub-brand. Sotheby’s has pretty much brought together every Dunk worth its weight, from Jeff Staple’s “Pigeon” SB Dunk from 2005 that invented sneaker pandemonium to the unfathomably rare “Paris” SB Dunk, which also happens to be a promo sample in this case.

While the “Paris” pair is expected to scoop up the highest price — between $76,541 and $95,677 USD — Sotheby’s is especially fond of the “Nike SB Dunk High Pro “FLOM” with Signed Box and Skateboard Deck” lot, which could fetch up to $90,000 USD. Only 24 pairs exist in the world, and each was created by Futura, with the acronym “FLOM” prominently displayed on the shoe and deck. A “FLOM” was previously sold for a then-record-breaking $63,000 USD at Sotheby’s.

The Concepts x Nike SB Dunk “Yellow Lobster,” the “Freddy Krueger” SB Dunk, a pair of Londons, and a pair of Supreme “Black Cement” Dunks are among the other high-end items. Sotheby’s is also bringing the Nike SB Blazer Premium “Milk Carton” and the Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski Michael Lau “10th Gardener,” which are both extremely rare Dunks.

Sotheby’s “Nike SB | 20 Years” auction is live here where the auction will run until April 25.
