teamLab’s “Animal Kingdom” Exhibition Blurs Boundaries Between Art and Science

Step into the immersive world of interdisciplinary art collective teamLab at the Nordic Watercolor Museum in Sweden. Titled “Animal Kingdom,” the exhibition features paintings by renowned artists such as Maria Sibylla Merian, James John Audubon, Wilhelm von Wright, Magnus von Wright, and Ernst Haeckel.

These works of art document the diversity of nature during the age of discovery from a scientific point of view. Based on teamLab’s concept of Ultrasubjective Space, the exhibit aims to bring attention to the great challenges of today, including climate issues and mass extinctions occurring in the animal world.

The artworks featured in the exhibition include “Proliferating Immense Life- Sunrise and Sunset,” “Nirvana,” “Life Survives by the Power of Life II,” and “Flower and Corpse Glitch Set of 12.” Through Ultrasubjective Space, the screens of works presented in the exhibition do not become a boundary, blurring the borders between the space of the viewer and the artwork. By allowing viewers to walk freely while looking at the image, the exhibit expands perspectives infinitely, enabling viewers to view the image with freedom of intent.
