Thom Browne continues an almost decade-long tradition of combining football and his collection. This time, Thom Browne returns to his alma mater, the University of Notre Dame, to pit team navy against team grey in a football match.
The designer reinterprets his ideal homecoming with the traditional football game and event that varsity schools across the country often celebrate.
Thom Browne puts 20 students on the field, half dressed in navy rugby stripes and the other half in grey. The game is an ode to family traditions and collegiate culture, both of which are important to Browne’s creative direction.
In this collection, Notre Dame students play football players, spectators, and cheerleaders. The group is dressed in the 2022 football capsule collection’s signature Thom Browne grey, white, and khaki color scheme. Browne excels at fusing classic varsity elements with modern Americana, as evidenced by this capsule.
Grey pleated skirts meet rugby polo shirts with the iconic four-stripe detail when paired with the ball collar coat and sack jacket. The label debuts its high-top canvas sneakers in grey, as well as the red, blue, and white moniker.
The collection also includes cashmere knits, cozy earmuffs and tuques, long johns, and down-filled parkas to correspond with the changing seasons. Pets and children are included in the collection because they fit the role of spectator.
