Jamaica holds a special place in the heart of adidas Originals, and it’s this vibrant spirit that Wales Bonner pays tribute to in their Spring/Summer 2023 collaboration with the Three Stripes. Aptly named “Land of Wood and Water,” this collection takes vintage silhouettes, infuses them with iconic Caribbean colors, and adds contemporary twists. Wales Bonner effortlessly creates a summer-ready uniform infused with cultural nuances inspired by Jamaica’s breathtaking landscapes.
Nylon tracksuits in a refreshing light teal hue embody warm-weather style, featuring slim-cut bottoms and sleeveless tops that offer comfort and freedom. Sweater vests and a knitted geometric roll neck pay homage to our elders, perfectly complementing the footwear (but we’ll get to that in a moment). The collection evolves with the introduction of metallic silver on anoraks and low-inseam shorts. Jamaican classics like the Harrington jacket and flared trousers receive the adidas spin, merging heritage with modernity.
While the clothing steals the spotlight, it’s the footwear that has sneakerheads in a frenzy. Enter adidas Originals’ much-anticipated Samba and SL72 Knit, presented in collaboration with Wales Bonner. The Samba boasts a formal nubuck version with leather stripes for a sophisticated touch, or a playful silver leather upper adorned with crochet stripes. As for the SL72 Knit, Jamaica’s influence takes center stage once again, with a knitted upper showcasing authentic shades of green, brown, and orange.
