WINNIE New York SS23 Updates Classic Silhouettes with Modern Sensibilities

Idris Balogun of WINNIE New York has unveiled his new Spring/Summer 2023 collection in the wake of his recent win of the Karl Lagerfeld Prize for this year.

Balogun’s most recent work, which made its debut during Paris Fashion Week, further demonstrates that modernizing classic silhouettes need not be a difficult process.

The new line, “Cold Feet,” takes its name from Alida Rodrigues, an Angolan artist. Rodrigues’ work examines issues of memory, identity, the sterilization of history, and the subsequent erasure of culture by fusing botanical illustrations and 19th-century postcards.

WINNIE New York’s latest collection contributes to the conversation about perception and cross-cultural interaction by channeling her work.

The collection is made up of timeless items like sweaters, suits, button-down shirts, jackets, shorts, and more that have been given a refined design touch. For instance, hand-tailored clothing has streamlined constructions and broad shoulders that contrast with button-down shirts’ slightly oversized French cuffs.

The use of high-end materials like Italian linen, light cashmere, virgin wool, mohair, and silk elevates the pieces to the next level. The palette, which is drenched in tones of jade, powder pink, sunset orange, lavender, and more, offers a flexible yet enticing pulse.

Bomber jackets with interior pockets, loose-fitting denim shorts, and ombre short-sleeve shirts are just a few of the collection’s other subtle details. The new collection, which is made entirely of natural fibers, puts an emphasis on lasting quality.
