The agreement has been finalized. The proposed acquisition of Bungie by Sony and its PlayStation division has just been finalized. According to an SEC filing, Bungie will now be a part of the Sony Entertainment Network but will continue to run independently. The deal is valued at around $3.7 billion USD.
Although the news was not as significant as Microsoft‘s announcement to buy Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion USD, Sony is excited about the move and excitedly tweeted about it. Although Bungie’s flagship IP Destiny is not exclusive, fans are pointing out that Sony now has access to Bungie’s expertise in multiplayer games.
