McLaren has revealed the all-new Solus GT, a single-cockpit hypercar conceived in the virtual racing world and now brought to life.
The automobile, which costs just under $3 million USD and is limited to 25 units, was created for the track and promises to be “as close to the experience and feel of driving a Formula 1 car as you can get.”
The radical shape, first developed as part of the Vision Gran Turismo project, features an aircraft-style canopy, halo-style roll hoops, and a closed cockpit entered by a dramatic sliding glass canopy. Each McLaren Solus GT is made of a rigid carbon-fiber monocoque and weighs less than 1,000kg.
The naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine develops 828 BHP and 1,200 kg of downforce and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds. When drivers enter, they are met by a curved 180-degree windscreen and a Formula 1-inspired steering wheel. Each owner’s racing seat is custom-molded.
