“Collaborations to me need to be the result of creative minds working and thinking together,” says Zegna artistic director Alessandro Sartori of the Italian house’s latest collaboration with London-based footwear designer Daniel Bailey, aka Mr. Bailey, and founder of CONCEPTKICKS – a shrine to all things footwear.
The two designers collaborated to create a special capsule of Triple Stitch MRBAILEY sneakers by fusing techniques, sensibilities, and styles. Within a contemporary craft ethos, they looked to Zegna’s classic Triple Stitch footwear silhouette and reset.
These new signatures have been deconstructed and reworked, with tactile layers of suede and leather and a hand-applied wraparound midsole, and feature a carbonised-inspired finish inspired by yakisugi, a traditional Japanese method of wood preservation.
“What made this collaboration unique was having access to ZEGNA’s family-owned manufacturing facilities – a playground for any designer.
This allowed us to experiment with different types of constructions — ultimately landing on the idea of re-contextualising leather-crafted footwear for the luxury market,” says Bailey.
The Zegna MRBAILEY sneakers are available now exclusively at Kith stores and online.
