Abloh collaborated closely with Daimler AG’s chief design officer, Gorden Wagener. The film depicts how the notion, which began as a simple drawing, evolved into an idea that blossomed into a tangible model that is today celebrated by engineers and designers all around the world.

Under the direction of Virgil Abloh, the German automaker created an off-road Maybach unlike any other. The late designer can be heard stating in the film, “The premise is to use two words to drive you to a new action. So utility and luxury are usually not used in the same sentence and the car we’re developing can function as such.”

The collaboration of two design legends results in a modern, yet utilitarian idea that pushes the boundaries of automobile everywhere. “I think it’s always great when two people have a different creative approach and different creative background. Virgil does a lot of stuff from fashion to art and so on so he has a different view. And I have a different angle too and it’s very interesting to combine these two.”

Wagener says in the short documentary. Virgil is involved in a variety of activities ranging from fashion to art, so he has a unique perspective. And I have a distinct perspective, which is incredibly exciting to blend.” The video concludes with a heartfelt tribute to Abloh’s legacy, reading, “With care, consideration, and respect to his family and friends, we share this behind-the-scenes of the project Maybach. We are honored to have worked with a creative genius and to have been inspired by his ideas and his attitude.”
