The series, based on Erik Larson’s 2003 book The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America, will have eight episodes released in 2024.

The story that follows takes place during the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago and is told through the eyes of architects such as Daniel Burnham and Frederick Law Olmsted. It will also mention H. H. Holmes, who is regarded as the first modern serial killer and built a hotel called “Murder Castle” during the event.

DiCaprio allegedly purchased film rights in 2010 and planned to star in a Scorsese-directed adaptation. That did not materialize, and instead became a limited series with the pair executive producing and Todd Field directing.
