Shortly after the announcement, Huawei, a rival Chinese technology company, announced that they had ended their seven-year partnership with Leica on March 31.

The future is bright for Xiaomi, as it should be able to significantly improve the camera on its new flagship phone thanks to Leica’s expertise, while also benefiting from the iconic red Leica badge as a major selling point. “This cooperation will provide a strong boost to Xiaomi’s imaging strategy,” says Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s founder, chairman, and CEO.

Xiaomi hasn’t shared much else about this upcoming product, name-wise, it’ll either be “Xiaomi 12 Ultra” or possibly kickstarting a “Xiaomi 13” series. Stay tuned for more information ahead of the upcoming release in July.
